Panels – Do I Need them in a Sound Studio?

Acoustic DiffusersSound Studio Acoustics need special attention to optimise sound quality

Yes - When designing a recording or sound studio it is very important to consider potential sound reflection or absorption from the wall or ceiling surfaces.

By using a combination of sound absorption and sound diffusion, the sound quality being recorded or produced can be enhanced quite considerably.

Many aspects need to be considered regarding sound quality, and it is recommended that you speak to a Sound Engineer or Acoustic Engineer. In Australia, visit the Association of Acoustic Consultants. In other countries, a similar association will exist.

Sontext manufactures various acoustic panels varying in thickness from 25mm thick to 125m. Each of these will affect sound performance at different frequencies in different ways.

As seen in this picture, Sontext manufactured Sound Diffusers and installed them in the recording studios at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney, Australia. They use a combination of a perforated timber face and glass wool insulation behind. These panels were all tested in the acoustic laboratories at RMIT Melbourne, and adjustments were made to their construction according to the requirements of the Acoustic Consultant, AECOM.

Sontext can manufacture wall and ceiling panels to your specifications, or if an acoustic engineer is involved, we can develop solutions for your project from our extensive catalogue of tested products.
