Fabric Acoustic Panels Doha Airport.

Inconjunction with the Sontext distributor in Qatar, Sontext have recently completed installation of both Fabric Acoustic Panels and FabriTRAK stretch wall systems.
Using fabrics from Carnegie textiles including Xorel, we have created a series of unique acoustic wall panels and treatments. The treatments involved using Serenity Acoustic Panels and 1/2 inch FabriTRAK systems. The Serenity panel was chosen because of its unique impact resistant membrane which makes it ideal as a wall panel in high traffic public areas. FabriTRAK was used due to the flexibility of the system and the fact that it can be installed on site, giving the architect the flexibility of last minute changes. By using FabriTRAK it also enabled the choice of leather as a decorative wall system.
The Sontext distributor in Qatar Is Deco Trading and Contracting who have been commissioned by Dragoni and SkyOrix to intake the installation of the acoustic treatments.

Acoustics Kuwait

Acoustic Treatment
Acoustic Treatment to noisy flooring

Sontext have recently supplied Acoustic Underfloor sound isolation to United Tower Kuwait. This was installed by Sadeer Contracting Kuwait and manufactured by MappyItalia SPA.

One of the largest noise problems in construction of apartments is the footfall noise or noise that is transmitted through the floor to the room below. By working with KEO Consulting Engineers teh MappySil under slab insulation noise barrier was chosen.
Sontext is a supplier of a wide range of acoustic solutions and contacted MappyItalia to design a composite product that would maximise the noise barrier while reducoing cost and teh thickness of teh material. The Mappysil product was installed under the slab and the result was an excellent acoustic barrier in Kuwaits landmark project.

Murano Acoustic Panels

Murano Acoustic Panels with a dark walnut veneer have been  installed in the suspended ceiling grid of a cafeteria, as shown in the picture. The panels were supplied with a 3mm round hole perforation pattern, resulting in a stylish ceiling area that also provides the required amount of sound absorption.

Sontext Marketing Manager Geoff Coghlan said “ARTAS Architects chose this product and finish. This is an ideal application for Murano Acoustic Panels, with this particular perforation pattern - as the space is intended to be used as a cafeteria. The 3mm holes are barely visible from floor level, so it doesn’t look like a typical perforated panel. Also, this perforation pattern has a tested Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.65 in a suspended ceiling application. This will provide sufficient sound absorption to minimise reverberation in the space, without deadening the “buzz”, which is desirable for social meeting space like this.  If the application was a library, or similar quiet area, we’d recommend Murano or Serenity Acoustic Panels with a much higher NRC.”

As the picture shows, services such as airconditioning diffusers, lighting, etc., were also easily incorporated into the ceiling panels.

Video Conferencing Rooms Acoustic Treatment

Acoustic Panels Video Conference roomAchieving high sound quality in video conferencing or teleconferencing rooms requires special attention to reverberation and reflected sound . This is particularly important if the room was not originally designed for the purpose. Many current video conferencing rooms have hard reflective surfaces on walls, ceilings, tables, etc, which will cause reverberation or increased noise levels. This means that the sound quality can be detrimentally effected, making it hard  for those at the other end of the connection to hear clearly.

One cost effective way to overcome this problem is to introduce Sound Absorbing Acoustic Panels into the room. By placing  Serenity Fabric Faced Acoustic Panels in the appropriate places on the walls or ceilings the reverberation time can be reduced significantly, resulting in a significant improvement to the sound quality.

When designing a new teleconference or video conference room it is important to consider room privacy, or noise penerating from outside the space, as well as the sound quality within the room. Solutions include using an effective sound barrier plasterboard like Soundcheck and installing insulation in the wall cavity. To complete the acoustic treatment you will need to include sound absorbing acoustic panels like Serenity Acoustic panels. This will reduce the noise levels in the room itself, therefore improving sound quality for both the speaker and the listener.

Auditorium Acoustic treatment

Achieving perfect sound production or producing the perfect rendition of a performance Fabric Covered Acoustic Panelcan be difficult if there is too much noise or reverberation in the Auditorium. This can be the result of too many hard surfaces which will have a detrimental effect on the sound quality.

One of the ways to treat this is problem is to install Fabric Covered acoustic panels. Sontext have recently treated a number of School auditoriums, Suzanne Cory, Berwick Fields, Latrobe University, St Josephs College (Bracken Ridge), Marian College (Sunshine) to mention a few. The products chosen were Serenity Fabric faced acoustic panels, some were 25mm thick and others were 50mm depending on the unique characteristics of each auditorium.

As in the above photograph Serenity Acoustic panels are available in a wide range of colours and can be custom made to create a unique look for the designer.

Church Acoustics, Diffusion and Absorption

Church Acoustics can be one of the most difficult areas of acoustical design, due to the number of specific requirements of a church auditorium. Whether this is for amplified music, speech or for stage presentations (e.g. Choirs), the acoustic requirements vary significantly. In many old church buildings as in the old cathedrals of Europe there was no absorption but many examples of reflection and diffusion. Trying to create this effect with today’s audio technology and building design can be difficult, but by engaging a qualified Acoustic Engineer as well as using the correct product design and installation this can be achieved.

Recently City Life Church in Melbourne, Australia were having a number of problems , from the space being too dead at some frequencies and reflective at others. Working with Hanson and Associates of Melbourne, Sontext manufactured Acoustic Panels and together with curved diffusers as seen in the Fabric Covered Acoustic Diffusers by Sontextphotograph below. By using a combination of a sound absorbing insulation and a plywood face the Serenity Acoustic diffuser was developed. While the Acoustic performance of the diffuser is very important, equally as important is the aesthetic finish. Covered in Rim Trilogy 1 fabrics by Innova this gave a fashion and decorative finish.

Other areas of the auditorium that were treated were 100mm thick Serenity Acoustic panels at the side of the stage and 50mm thick Serenity Acoustic panels in the hallways. By working with the Acoustic enginnerer Sontext was able to deliver a fully installed solution for City Life Church and the results have been exceptional.

Sontext offer Diffusers, Reflective panels, Quadratic diffusers, Bass traps, Sound Absorbing Acoustic Panels, all tailored to suit the specifications of the Acoustic engineer and the Aesthetic requirements of an Interior Designer. Please feel free to contact Sontext for further information or Technical data sheets at sales@sontext.com.au

Noise Problem in BER Schools

Now that most of the Federal Government B.E.R. (Building Education Revolution) projects are almost complete many schools are discovering that classrooms or multipurpose halls are almost unusable due to poor acoustics. The reason usually is that not enough attention has been given to the many demanding uses forsuch venues – resulting in very reverberant or noisy spaces.

At Sontext we have had  a significant number of complaints involving new  school classrooms or halls because there is just too much noise and the students cannot hear the teachers clearly. The net result of this noise is that stress on teachers increases significantly and the students must learn in an uncomfortable environment.

We have worked with numerous school principals and acoustic consultants to develop a cost effective, decorative and quieter school environment. This has been achieved by installing Serenity  Fabric Acoustic Panels for walls and ceilings. As can be seen in the above picture Serenity Acoustic panels have been custom made to fit in with the existing building, these are available in a number of styles of fabrics and colours.

The addition of the Serenity L32 impact resistant membrane means that the Acoustic panels can be installed into gymnasiums or multipurpose  halls without the additional worry of the panels getting damaged. Serenity Acoustic Panels can take a lot of impact from basketballs to people bumping into them, the fabric wont stretch and you will not see indentations that you will get from Acoustic panels without an impact resistant membrane.

If you have recently taken possession of a BER School project and it is noisy, to get advise on possible alternatives please contact Sontext at sales@sontext.com.au

Church Hall Acoustics

Many Church Halls are used as multipurpose venues where sound quality is an important attribute.  Refurbishing an old, reverberant Church Hall so it can be used for a wide variety of  activities can be demanding. Church Hall Refurbishment On weekends, hall uses may include music performances, church services or presentations using a public address system. During the week the same hall may be utilised for many other activities, like sports for example. This places many acoustic demands on a hall, and if it is an old hall there are usually reverberation – or echo –  problems.  Reflected sound can make it difficult for a presenter or leader to be heard clearly. A noisy audience can make speech almost intelligible in a reverberant hall.

By  introducing sound absorbing 25mm or 50mm Serenity(tm) Fabric Acoustic Panels onto the walls or ceilings of noisy halls reverberation can be reduced significantly. The accompanying image shows how 25mm thick Serenity Acoustic Panels  have been installed onto existing walls, creating a decorative feature and reducing reverberation noise significantly. The installation is quick and simple using the Serenity Fixing Rail. Using this system, the panels can be moved if required at any time.

Serenity Fabric Acoustic Panels include an L32 Impact Resistant Membrane. As a result the panels can withstand abuse from many sources, eg., indoor sports, like basketball, or accidental contact from furniture.

By integrating Serenity Acoustic Panels or other products from the Sontext range, (eg, diffusers, bass traps, or wooden or timber acoustic panels), church hall acoustics can be improved significantly
